Spring Flea-ver in Michigan

A dog poses with a groomer

There’s no secret here, we LOVE our dogs! And we knew what we were getting ourselves into when we signed up to be a #dogparent. Between the drool, shedding, and trips to the groomers, we’re on the clock full time. But are there a few things we might be forgetting?

As we start checking off our Spring Cleaning list, there are a few places we can tackle for our beloved dogs. Some of the dirtiest items in your house can be the things your pet uses every day. Toys, water bowls, blankets, collars, etc… there are quite a few things we might not think need a good deep clean.

With Spring right around the corner, now is a great time to tackle them all.

Spring Cleaning

Food and Water Bowls

We see these and fill them every day, multiple times a day. But when was the last time you gave them a good clean? If you can’t remember, you might want to grab the soap. A study by the National Safety Federation (NSF) found pet food bowls to be the fourth germiest item in the house.

Now that’s something to bark about. If it has been a while since they’ve been cleaned, add those to your spring cleaning checklist.

Pet Toys

There is no surprise here with how frequently our dogs are in play mode. Dog toys definitely get good use! And since they are often drenched in saliva and wet, they are breeding grounds for bacteria. Gross! Make it a point to give these a good deep clean, and if they aren’t salvageable, it’s best to just toss them.

Preventative Care

Flea & Tick Prevention

The weather is starting to warm and our dogs are itching to be outside for playtime. Unfortunately, unwanted guests like fleas and ticks encourage that itch! Are your pets protected from the dangers of fleas and ticks? A tick bite can cause infections, abscesses, paralysis, Lyme disease and even death in your pet. Similarly, fleas can cause major discomfort to our four-legged friends, including itchy skin, flaky skin, scabs, hotspots, and hair loss.

One of the best ways to protect your dogs from these harmful insects is year-round prevention. There are a variety of oral, topical, and injectable products available to help deter fleas and ticks. Keep your dog happy and healthy this spring!

Hygiene

Spring brings pollen, and for dogs and humans alike it’s a struggle. Spring is a great time to tackle some personal hygiene for your dog.

Help your dog shed a few layers to welcome in a new season by scheduling a grooming appointment. Grooming appointments will check all your dog’s hygiene boxes in one. From clean ears to trimmed nails, Care like this will not only have your dog looking great but feeling great and refreshed.

Think about how great it feels when you take part in a little #selfcare! Let your dog get in on the fun and get them ready for warmer weather.
